Lists

I am one of the most disorganised people I know. If something isn't written down it's very likely I will forget it. Thats where lists come in to save the day.

I have lists for everything. I have a to-do list at work. Then on my phone I have multiple lists in various formats. I have a list of jobs that need looking at in the house, items I need to remember to buy and a bucket list. I have a list for topics for blog posts and a list for things I need to remember/avoid or do in my novel. I have a to-read list on Goodreads and I employ lists to keep track of tweeters on twitter.

As I write this I can see how much my life is run by lists and I didn't realise just how much until I started typing. Now I have a list of lists.

Are you a list user and how so?

  1. When I have things to do I'll make a list inclusing even little things that will only take five secs because it feels so good to cross them off. So good...

  2. I like lists but I don't need them. Sometimes I think I make lists to avoid actually doing the tasks on the list and other times I like being able to cross items off my list.

  4. I don't use lists to stay organised,I just find them comforting. I write them to keep track of ideas I have for family presents, places to visit, books I want to read, anything I feel I might find useful in the future.

  5. Excellent post! I too have a bucket list, but in terms of other physical or electronic lists, I've abandoned those some time ago. Not that I begrudge you because I think that extra tool of organization is a vital resource. I've overcome the list mania by persistently committing to memory—daily, weekly, monthly—all that I needed to accomplish. Now, it's all second nature.

    Great blog!

  6. Hey Rebecca ~~ I am not a compulsive list maker . I usually make short lists for the supermarket . As the need arises , I make lists for various functions/occasions/Christmas etc . :)

  7. I keep lists for two reasons. (1) I have kids and the only way to keep track of them and their needs plus everything else that has to be done is to write it all down (it doesn't go over very well when your kid is the only one WITHOUT some important thing they were supposed to bring to school). (2) Crossing things off makes me feel productive. :)

  8. Besides the standard grocery list, I have a lists (note plural) of books to read, ideas to write about, movies to see, music to buy, over used words to avoid while writing...

    The lists are long.

  9. My life revolves around lists, I couldn't manage without them. I have lists for shopping, house jobs, garden jobs, projects and anything else its possible to have a list for.

  10. I find that I need to make a list so that I remember to do things. However once I've made the list I don't actually need to look at the list to remember what is on it.

Whereas if I don't write it down and just assume I'll remember then I WILL forget!

  11. I tend to need lists. Or post it notes. Then if my list gets too much stuff crossed off I have to rewrite it so nothing is crossed off. A bit OCD in that aspect.

  13. It would seem we are all list people in some shape or form. I wonder if that is to do with the fact that we all have to keep up with blogs, social networks and our busy lives. I know lots of people who don't do these things aren't particularly list people. We need to keep track of it all somehow!

I agree it's a great feeling when you're crossing them off.

Thank you for all the comments. It's been great reading them :)
