Facebook

Social networking is a phenomena. When I was a teenager, I didn't own a computer or mobile phone. We relied on landline telephones to keep in touch and the ability of our feet to walk to the distance to the people we wanted to talk with.

Now it's a different ball game altogether. We can reach people we would never have otherwise had a conversation with. We can connect with people from far away with similar interests and we can develop friendships that are real.

Facebook seems to have had the monopoly over the social networking world at the minute, but I'm not convinced it will stay that way. Details on my favourite networks to come in later posts. I am still using Facebook though and you can't deny it reaches an awful lot of people. It's reach is wide and it's users active.

If you're on Facebook, lets connect there as well here. Clicking HERE will take you to my personal Facebook account not a writer page or suchlike. I'm not a huge timeline hog. I blog more than I Facebook, but if you want to connect on there, feel free to add me.

I hope you're having a great A to Z month so far!

  1. I tried using fb twice, but the program wouldn't work for me. Blogging is the only thing I do. It is enough at this point.

  2. I think Facebook is great for keeping in touch - I personally hate talking on the phone. I even text more than I call. It's also been a huge benefit in meeting other writers in an informal way. I'm also just getting to grips with the forums and groups on Goodreads.

  3. Facebook does things to annoy me, but it's my favorite way to keep up with other writers.

  5. I've had a Facebook page for a few years now but recently I've found that it keeps putting some people's posts up as priority viewings and other people's posts aren't shown at all. I've gone through and changed the priorities but it needs to be done for each person which is a faff. I've stopped using it. I use Twitter much more now.

  7. I'm a big FB fan as it has enabled me to keep in touch with all my friends and family back in the UK in a really easy way. I can post pics once for all to see and just click "like" and I've stayed in touch without a massive long phone call. I know some people hate it but I LOVE it!

  9. I use Facebook more than I probably should. I think there are a lot of pros about social media, but I definitely think it has the potential to do a lot of harm. It really is amazing though how the way we communicate with each other has changed so much in the last decade.

  10. I was really into facebook when I first joined, but I don't get on much these days. I find myself spending more time on Twitter lately.

  11. I really like Facebook for keeping up with distant relatives I don't see and sharing photos with people. I can't be bothered to document my life on there, so don't very often leave a status, but it's really great for seeing what everyone's up to. I don't get quite the same cosy feeling from Twitter!

  12. Facebook has helped me strengthen my bond with the writing community. I have two accounts, one for family and friends, the other for writing friends. It works well for me.

  14. I liked how Facebook brought me back into contact with high school peers but lately dislike that the friends I want to stay up-to-date with are overwhelmed by the posts of others who seem to have nothing better to do with their time that post a variety of time-wasting blurbs.

I wish Facebook, with all its bells and whistles, would give us more control over what shows up - or rather "who" shows up on our main feed page

  15. I can never decide what I think about Facebook. At first I really didn't care for it but then I started using it a bit more and liked it, but I still don't really understand why it is so popular. I can kind of take it or leave it. Great choice for F.

  16. I like FB, all my family is on it. But it did take my younger sisters twisting my arm to get me to try it. :)

  17. I deactivated my facebook awhile back along with twitter and several blogs. I am simplifying. Blogging is my favorite even though not the most popular at the moment. Have a great weekend! :)

  18. I first started a facebook account as a way to post pictures for far away relatives to see pics of my kiddos. I have thought about deleting my account, but I belong to a pen pal groups, and a homeschool freebie group which I find very helpful. I hope to write more as time goes on.

  20. My friend from HS and I say that if FB was around back then, we would never have gotten anything done. That said, I'm glad to have it today.

  21. I'm a regular FB junkie :) LOL. I don't play games--but I am a member of several blogging groups, including my own. I enjoy the interaction with others on FB.

  22. Man, I signed up for FB back when you needed a college e-mail address. Needless to say, twas for personal use and not networking, and having to switch between two accounts is a hassle. I just use blogger and twitter, and then pinterst cuz it's addicting.

  23. I was on FB just to keep in touch with family, but then people kept wanting to be friends who I had no desire to be friends with. I deleted the account in the end.
