Dance Like No One Is Watching

Dance like no one is watching refers to the fact that we shouldn't worry about what others think of us, we should just live our life and live it well.

I love this quote. It's simple but it says a lot. I found it particularly relevant a couple of years ago when I was approaching an age with a number I have no intention of mentioning again! Anyway, I decided I needed to do the things I wanted to do. I needed to push myself, if I didn't try, the dreams would never come true. So now I try and I keep trying. I started and finished my first book. I try to enjoy myself without putting things off for another day. OK, I may occasionally put the more difficult things off for another day. But the point is, I'm not putting them off permanently. I'm trying to live in the moment and it's going quite well. I don't want to get to an age where I look back and wish I done various things I had the chance to do, but didn't.

I tend not to dance in front of others as I have the rhythm of a dancing frog, but I do like the quote.

What are you doing that has you dancing like no one is watching?

  1. I literally dance like no one is watching when I'm at home doing the cleaning! Not sure if that counts, though lol!

  2. I have a computer fitness game where I have to dance but it's in our front room and I'm always conscious of people walking by. Plus if I draw the curtains they might think I'm doing something even worse! I really love Ronan Keating singing I Hope you Dance. *I'm listening to it now!*

  3. I love to dance-- and I do dance like no one is watching. A lot of times, I probably should pay attention--I certainly don't have the body I used to have...but it is about the joy I feel when I dance-not what others think-- I think! LOL

  4. I love to dance. I'll dance in the aisles at the grocery story of if the music is good. I don't care whose watching.

  5. I actually dance. Usually while making dinner. Or in the shower. But also I sing, but only when alone in the house or in the car.

  6. I also have no rhythm, Rebecca, but it never seems to matter when I'm at home in the kitchen with my boys and we're waiting for tea to cook. With the exception of the teenager who is apparently 'too old for all that.' We also dance when one of us is feeling a bit low for no particular reason. Works everytime for us.

Like Gwen, I only ever sing in the car with the radio on loud!

  7. Like several of your other commenters, I dance at home, at the gym - both working and working out, in supermarkets and walking down the road.

We all need to dance... Watch out for I! (That's the letter I, not me!)

  10. Here from A-Z, and I have to say I love this post. :)

Upon recently discovering that I got winded when walking to the mailbox, and that I not only have two left feet, they are attached backwards, I started Zumba.

After a few classes, I can honestly say that I can make it half way to the mailbox without getting winded, and I am actually gaining some rhythm. So, in answer to your question, I Zumba when no one is watching, and even when they are...

I Zumba while doing laundry.... shake my booty while doing dishes.... a little Mambo No. 5 in the grocery store...

My husband is very distracted. :)

  11. Haha, I am another frog when it comes to dancing. But I do dance like no one is watching when I'm cleaning and listening to my Ipod.

I love this quote too and it was one of the quotes that inspired me to start making changes in my life. Great post!

  12. Love the photo and the quote! I try to dance like nobody's watching with everything I do. Living like that has earned me the nickname Fun Martha :)

  14. I dance like no one is watching before I take a shower, after I shower and when I'm in a good mood and a cool song comes on Pandora! Using it as a metaphor, however, I don't exactly know what I'm doing that has me dancing like no one is watching. Maybe working on a new online video series and my screenplays...I guess. I don't know.

  15. Living your life like no one is watching allows you to live a life of peace. People have become too judgmental and it feels good to just live. I always say, "God is my only judge and I know He didn't ask for your opinion!" LOL! It's true though... good post!!
