New Commenting Feature

I'm not sure how far behind I am with this posts title, or how "New" the feature actually is. Maybe I should have the title as New to me, commenting feature.

The reason I now know about this new feature is I found a great "How to" post on Pearson Report blog, on Monday. The post not only informed me about the new feature - Yes we're still going with new, no matter how old it actually is -but it has a great step by step image guide for dummies. Yep, that's the category I fall into with blogs.

What is this great new feature? - you are all probably using by now. Well previously when replying to comments, I had to make a whole list in one comment box and hope someone may be interested in searching through it for a specific response to themselves. Now though, Google Blogger have added the ability to reply to bloggers individual comments. I love this! It's something I've been envious of Wordpress bloggers for, for some time.

So, if like me, you didn't know this new feature existed and you want to know how to add it to your own blog, I suggest you go take a peek at this Pearson Report post, where the very quick steps are explained.

Did you already know this existed and do you/will you use it?

  1. I noticed that new feature and was really pleased to be able to reply to individual comments on my blog. As far as I know it just appeared on my blog, without me adding the feature, but my daughter has updated my blog for me recently so maybe she did it for me. She's the IT expert who I call on for help!

    1. I wish things would just appear on my blog. I think I will need to browse around the control panel to see if there's anything else I could be using!

  2. I had absolutely no idea and I love the idea of it. Thank you Rebecca because this is indeed absolutely new. There's an interesting guest post on my blog today about writing reviews. I'd love to know what you prefer in book reviews. Its turning out to be very controversial this topic.

    1. It's great isn't it. I'm glad I could let other bloggers know. I like honest reviews. I will pop back over :)

  3. Hi, Rebecca,
I wish Blogger had gotten to this sooner. I went and installed another comment thingie, but when I tried to get rid of it, all I did was lose the comment box. Gonna go over and see if I can't understand how to install Blogger's app properly. Some folks have commented that sometimes they can't leave a comment with the one I'm now using.

    1. I was always envious of the comments on Wordpress and many times have sat wondering whether I should change blog platform, but stayed. Not it's here :)

  5. It was because a lack of this feature that I started replying to comments via e-mail. It was so easy too do, as the comments get sent to my inbox anyway. But then the other day when I actually looked at the comments section of my blog (I'm not on my actual blog very often, just the behind the scene pages), I was like 'Whoa! I can reply!' which is very helpful to engage in conversation with several people at once, one of the drawback of e-mail. But e-mail is still very accessible, so it'll take constant mental reminders to use the reply system for a while. But I do plan on using it.

    1. Email is something I haven't done with my blog. When I comment on other peoples blogs I subscribe to comments so I get responses via my email. I like this new addition though.

  6. I've been using it since I read the same guide on the same blog you did Rebecca. It's wonderful, and makes my comment replying so much easier, especially since I reply both on my blog and by email.

  7. Hi Rebecca - I'm glad you are using, and liking, this "new" commenting feature. Yes, it is relatively new!
Commenting is key to successful blogging, at least in my books, and anything that makes leaving one and replying to one easier is top on my list!

Thank you for linking back to my post - I'm always pleased when a post is worthy of a link back!

    1. You're welcome. It would be completely wrong of me not to have linked back. It was definitely a post I wanted to make, to let other bloggers know. :)

  8. I started blogging early in 2010, and I was SO boggled by everything. It took me MONTHS of long days trying to learn how to use Blogger. But this past year I had someone help me set up a WordPress blog, and that's where I'm staying because now, at my age, I'm just weary of trying to figure out something new! I went to WP, for one thing, because I liked how you can reply beneath the comment. It just took Blogger a while to get with it, slowly. But I'm glad it's happening for all my Blogger friends, should they stay with Blogger; and I think most of them will.

    1. Blogger does seem to be slow on the uptake of helpful things. It surprises me as Google is supposed to be so forward thinking. It's like they can't be bothered with the blogging platform.

  10. Well this is a new one for me too. I also have wished I could comment like the Wordpress people do. I shall now go over and find out how to apply this to my blog. Thank you so much for sharing the info.

  11. I saw others using it and think it's great. I'm going to read Pearson's post so I can get it right - I tried before but it seemed to get "stuck." Or something. :-)

  12. I love the reply feature so, so much. It's the main reason why I redesigned my blog a week ago!
