New Commenting Feature

I'm not sure how far behind I am with this posts title, or how "New" the feature actually is. Maybe I should have the title as New to me, commenting feature.

The reason I now know about this new feature is I found a great "How to" post on Pearson Report blog, on Monday. The post not only informed me about the new feature - Yes we're still going with new, no matter how old it actually is -but it has a great step by step image guide for dummies. Yep, that's the category I fall into with blogs.

What is this great new feature? - you are all probably using by now. Well previously when replying to comments, I had to make a whole list in one comment box and hope someone may be interested in searching through it for a specific response to themselves. Now though, Google Blogger have added the ability to reply to bloggers individual comments. I love this! It's something I've been envious of Wordpress bloggers for, for some time.

Broken

I've broken the blog.

I wasn't in the least bit happy about it. Obviously.

All I wanted to do was have a look what the new Blogger Dynamic blog would look like, so I tinkered away and clicked a few keys. And Voila, a dynamic blog I didn't like because the header was gone and so was the About me, Follow Me buttons, and Google Friends Connect button. How is anyone supposed to navigate a blog and know where they have landed, and how to get back to it, if it's not all clearly signposted? So, no, dynamic blogs weren't for me. Only, I lost what I had and now, though I have most of it back, I can't figure out how to change the colour of the post title or the posts done this month, bit. I know where to look on the dashboard for the post title colour, but when I click on it, there is only the option to change the font and size, no colour pallette.

So it's still broken.

I have been considering a re-vamp, but that's all it was, a wispy thought that came and went, that I didn't have half an intention of implementing yet. Now though, I'm annoyed. Both with myself and the blog itself. Pah.

I hope that all the odd colours and wonky feel of the place doesn't put people off. It's still me in here. Promise.

Google Blog +1

I've recently noticed a new feature that has appeared at the bottom of blog posts and that is a new colourful button with the phrase +1 at the side of it. It confused me at first and I didn't dare click on it to see what it would do for fear of making my blog implode or something.

I wasn't the only one who had been wondering about this new colourful addition to the blog and as someone posed the question on a writing group I use on Facebook. The question was then very kindly answered and the mystery has been solved. So for anyone still wondering, you can find a full explanation here on the google blog, but basically it's like a Facebook "like" button and will bring posts up the google ladder in search terms.

Wordpress versus Blogger

When I started blogging last year I chose the google blogger platform because it was really simple to set up.

During my short time as a blogger I have read both blogger and wordpress blogs. I am torn on which one I prefer. I like blogger because I can generally make it work. I'm not the most technologically minded person but I can figure bits out. I like wordpress because I've seen some fabulous themes and clean layouts. To me it seems to have a slightly more professional presentation about it. I'm definitely not saying there aren't any great blogger blogs out there, it's simply my perception.

My other perception is that wordpress is more difficult to work and get your head around. This again isn't necessarily true.

My blog is a work in progress. When I first started blogging it didn't look like this. I'm still learning what it can do and little changes keep happening. I have contemplated making the switch to wordpress but I wouldn't know how to or if I could transfer all my posts over as though it's a continuing blog. I don't know if there is a better one to use. I've definitely come across more blogger blogs than wordpress and that is something that keeps me tied to this platform. It's popular. I see people using it and using it well.

What do you prefer, wordpress or blogger and what exactly are the differences?
